Games.

Observing how people interact has allowed me to pick up this unspoken chess game people play every time they interact with someone. Every interaction or exchange (or close enough to that) always has a tone one of the parties in the exchange has set, it is this ability that allows people to flirt without really saying what’s on their minds. People are intelligent creatures but sometimes it’s not as direct as flirting, sometimes during a conversation with someone new people are silently gauging how much respect to hand you once the conversation is done or trying to somehow establish themselves as the dominant figure in that particular relationship (exchange) by boxing you into a corner. Openly being rude, undermining your intelligence, provoking an emotional response, subtly highlighting any visible or hidden insecurities you might have, all these things put one person at a disadvantage in the interaction because they come off weaker afterward. Leaving them feeling smaller or itchi...

Purpose.

As the days go by, at some point during each day I have to ask myself why I still don’t know what I want to do with my future. I never particularly loved anything while growing up, I had no amazing dreams of being an engineer or some doctor, I had and still don’t have anything I feel connected to in that sense even after spending the last three years of my life becoming a developer.  I wish someone had genuinely sat me down and asked me. Not in passing or somehow turning that exchange into some sort of scolding but actually talked to me and helped me understand that I need to take the time out to ask myself these questions. I hate the idea of pointing fingers at others and blaming them for whatever it is in my life that isn’t working out but every so often I am absolutely appalled by the sheer lack of guidance I received growing up.  I mean I was never the most compliant of children so I will not act as if I would have welcomed said guidance but I mean let’s be reasonabl...

Belonging.

The world has never been more connected than it is right now. We have the luxury to be informed on matters from all around the world, in real-time. Technology is truly amazing. I am always left in awe by just how far we’ve really come. Technological advancements in communication, especially, hold a special place in my heart but with all this communication and connecting we don’t notice just how out of touch we are with the realities in the world.  I often like to depress myself with the idea of just how much suffering exists in the world, I have never seen a war zone personally but I come from a war-torn nation, a nation that is on the top 10 most unsafe places for women and children to live and even though I am far away from the conflict my family’s decision to leave is a testament to the hardships that were left behind.  I think about the Middle East, I think about South America, I think about all the people waking up in a new country from the inside of a shipping conta...

No Bad Sex.

Let's just dive right in.  I was having a conversation with a friend and she was telling me about how she felt that her generation has lost all sense of romance and has rather drifted to glorifying something she called "hook-up culture". The idea that meaningless sexual encounters are the theme of the day.  That people want all the perks that come with a relationship without none of the commitment. The idea that she lived in a period where relationships have lost their importance and how she was disgusted by it. She went on to tell me a brief story about how her father used to catch a bus and travel a considerable distance just to see the girl he liked who also happened to be the mother of said friend.  I conceded that the world has become partially desensitized to the idea of sex but is that really a bad thing? I'm not saying pornography should get a daytime TV slot I'm just saying if people treated sex as a normal part of life and educated one another on ...
