Where They Meet

So, I was out in the club (a pub really) and it was right around the time I came up with " The People In The Bar ". Well it was actually at the very same time. Both thoughts were running through my imagination concurrently.  I stood there with one hand on my friend's shoulder for balance cause I was jumping very excitedly, the reason was Sheck Wes's Mo Bamba had just come on so naturally, it was time to rage or at the very least make it very apparent that I really enjoyed having this song play anytime I am out with my friends. So here I am singing, shouting along to this song, head tilted up to the ceiling and my eyes squinted slightly because I had a slight buzz going.  My mouth kept shouting and my legs kept jumping but my mind wondered very briefly, I was looking at this antique pressed ceiling and how it looked very similar to the one I had in my childhood home. I thought about how old the building must have been, how long it's been a bar, and how differe...

Occupied Space.

Wrote 'Purpose' some time ago and nothing has changed. Sitting at my desk at work and trying to watch YouTube videos of Halle Berry eating some hot wings because I would rather anything than being here right now. (Side note Halle Berry was Rihanna before we had Rihanna, what a beauty!)  (Further side note, she is so goofy, I'm in love). I genuinely hate that this is life, it might be a result of not being where I want to be in life or not having the things I want but I cannot believe that this is the norm. That this is life, that I am meant to spend the bulk of my youth working a 9-hour shift every day for probably the next 20 to 30 years. It just makes my stomach turn. I don't really have any passions, I don't really like anything and definitely don't know if there is anything I like enough to do it for the rest of my life. I don't really have any talents and I think I might be a worker ant but I don't like working all that much either so maybe I am...

Unimaginable.

I’m sorry the world is the way it is. That a lot of you have to live in fear, fear of a variety of things that could befall any living creature but above all else fear of men. I’m sorry we aren’t better, being fully aware of the futility of this makes it all that much harder to write. These are just letters on a screen, these won’t make the world a better safer place for women and girls, these words are almost selfish because they are coming from the side of the oppressor trying to find some peace knowing he can’t truly stop his kind from oppressing. I’m sorry that most of my life I couldn’t relate to your struggles, I couldn’t even mentally digest them properly. Do I sympathize? Entirely. Even throw in some empathy to the mix but I genuinely did not understand. I lacked the urgency because deep down no matter how sad the stories got I couldn’t personally relate, I couldn’t picture myself in that position and so I couldn’t possibly comprehend the gravity of all of it. ...

Mine.

Recently had a good friend send me a short clip from a YouTube debate on the practicality of monogamy. The group of four were basically discussing why monogamy is flawed and why jealousy as a concept is frowned upon in all aspects of one’s life except in their love lives. The gist was that wanting to keep someone all to yourself is incredibly selfish. They covered that monogamy in this day and age is safe and is more efficient but not necessarily the right way to go. Now I’m not an expert on the matter but I feel like it is commonly known that we as a species have moved from wanting to impregnate every female of our species (an evolutionary trait designed to ensure the survival of a species) to rather finding a match, pairing up and staying with them.  The need for meaningful long-lasting emotional connections have outgrown a past desire to simply have dozens of sexual partners. In my personal opinion, jealousy is very warranted in relationships not only tha...

The Three of Us.

Now, this is not about cheating but it comes close. I was asked why it is I that men get easily distracted by other females (assuming the men in question already had women in their lives). In my personal opinion society is to blame for everything that ever went wrong. ANYWHERE. Here is why. Being born a man comes with certain unspoken, unwritten rules that you have to follow, the same as being born a woman. Some of these rules include that men are expected to initiate romantic exchanges of any kind. If you like a girl or if that girl likes you for that matter you’re expected to make the first move, say hi, ask for her number, etc. The entire process of courtship begins with you, so that being said boys are basically trained to shoot their shot no matter what and if they miss they just pick the ball up and shoot again, rinse and repeat. Every woman we meet that is physically attractive becomes a potential “mate”. It’s not like she would walk up to you and tell you if she liked you...
